SATURDAY AND AFTER SCHOOL CLASSES FOR KIDS & TEENS
Youth classes at Gage Academy of Art provide innovative visual-arts education to children and teens who want to be creative in their free time.
Professional artists lead Gage Youth Programs classes and provide clear hands-on instruction in a wide range of mediums and techniques. Young artists enrolled in these classes can expect to have their artistic sensibilities valued and encouraged in exciting ways. We limit class size to ensure that all students receive ample attention.
Draw, paint and collage your way through seven decades of abstract art by creating masterpieces of your own. Learn and apply techniques inspired by history: stylized drips by Jackson Pollock, bold shapes and colors by Ellsworth Kelly, cut-out layers like Robert Rauschenberg, bright constructions like Frank Stella, computer-chip-city lines like Matt Mullican and futuristic patterns by Barbara Takenaga. All art materials provided.
Ages 7-11
Explore the natural world through art making! Develop the creative and observational skills to make drawings and paintings of carnivorous plants, flowers, edible greens and trees. Sculpt butterflies and wire bugs while learning their relationships to plants, and take a field trip to the botanical gardens to draw from observation. Young artists/scientists return home with green thumbs and colorful field notes. All art materials provided.
Ages 12-17
Learn color and form in drawing and design through applied color theory. Seamlessly understand the power of hue, shape and meaning in what you create by learning composition, value, color mixing, perspective, drawing from observation, life and photographs as well as overall painting and drawing techniques. Through demonstrations and independent student work, color techniques are applied to your individual student projects. All art materials provided.
