Affordable and stimulating, the Gage Lecture Series invites art students and the general public to become better acquainted with artistic techniques and art history. You can register for a whole series or simply “drop in” for a particular lecture that interests you.

Principles of Perspective Drawing

Faigin offers entertaining lectures for artists of all levels in this eight-part lecture series reviewing the principles and history of perspective with demonstrations, drawings and images. The lectures can be taken sequentially as a series, or independently of each other.

There are many significant transitions that have happened in art since the turn of the 20th century. From the popularization of modern art museums to the abandonment of conventional art venues, artists continue to re-imagine the definition of art and how it is experienced.
This six-part series examines the shifts in art history from the moment Impressionists took their canvases outside to how contemporary art has changed throughout the 20th century. The series concludes with an investigation of what is happening today in 2010 with discussion of international and local artists whose work can be seen here in Seattle.

Gage Artistic Director Gary Faigin brings the artist’s eye and the art historian’s context to his overview of the exhibition Picasso: Masterpieces from the Musée National Picasso, Paris, on view at the Seattle Art Museum this fall. This first-time major Northwest show presents iconic works from eight decades of Picasso’s legendary career. Faigin walks you through the major periods of the artist’s prolific output while referencing his complex personal life, artistic milieu and development as the most wide-ranging and innovative artist of the 20th century. Audio equipment is provided and tour participants are invited to continue the conversation at a no-host happy hour at the SAM TASTE Restaurant afterward. Tour limited to 24. SAM admission not included.
